Opposition leader Bobi Wine has declared that there is nothing to negotiate with the government regarding his fundamental rights and personal dignity in a sharply worded statement that signals a hardening stance against the administration of Yoweri Museveni.

This followed after media reported that Government had approached the National unity platform leadership to negotiate his safe and secure return back into the country from exile without confrontation.

Since January elections, both military and police have maintained presence at NUP leader’s private home in Magere under unclear circumstances.

In remarks that reframe the ongoing political contest as a question of constitutional entitlement rather than political compromise, the National Unity Platform (NUP) principal rejected suggestions that his return to Uganda or participation in national affairs could be subjected to dialogue with state authorities.

“How can my rights and dignity be a subject of negotiation?” he asked, asserting that freedoms such as movement, expression and political participation are guaranteed under the law and cannot be bartered.

Bobi Wine also criticised sections of the media, accusing NBS Television of promoting what he termed “false narratives” about his position and legal standing.

He argued that challenging an incumbent leader, even successfully is not a crime but a democratic right.

“Standing against Museveni and even beating him is only a crime in the eyes of some media narratives not in the eyes of the law,” he said.

The opposition figure maintained that his planned return to Uganda remains inevitable, describing it as both a constitutional right and a duty to his supporters.

He emphasised that no negotiations would be entertained over what he considers inherent rights.
